We’re looking for a new house in unfamiliar neighborhoods. Our previous strategy was local maps, a lot of screaming, accusations and U-Turns.
We installed the Garmin 2610 software in less than 15 minutes, took another 15 minutes to learn the system, plugged it into the power outlet and it’s worked like a champ.
The product is virtually idiotproof and accurate to the point that it tells you what side of the street the address is on you’ve entered into the console. Built in compass, time to destination, time to next turn are all bonus features.
The only downside (perhaps a New Jersey thing) is that some destinations can’t be found if you don’t know the exact town they’re in. Morristown is mutually exclusive from Morris Plains even though they’re right next door. This requires two searches - or expanding the search to statewide. It also is not forgiving of spelling errors.
Suggested retail is $1100 but we got it for $798 net from Amazon.com and probably could have waited and gotten it for even less.
Considering Acura wanted to charge almost $2000 to have a GPS installed permanently, this is a much better deal. When we get rid of the car, we can keep the Garmin and move it to the next auto.
