First Impressions:

I was able to pick this Bluetooth GPS for pretty cheap a few weeks ago. It came in a decent box with a tiny instruction manual that covered the basics of how to charge and operate the device. The first thought through my head was how tiny this receiver really was, much smaller than pack of playing cards and even smaller than a credit card.

Features:

This GPS is based on the latest MTK GPS chipset and gets an impressive 32 hours of runtime using the standard battery. The BT-Q818 is a 32 channel receiver so in theory you could use the data from 32 different satellites. But this is a little excessive since there are only 24 GPS satellites in orbit right now and you can only have 12 in view at any given time. But it’s nice knowing that you could use 32 satellites if it were possible.

Performance:

The BT-Q818 features a cold start time of 39 seconds which is very impressive. I have been using TomTom on my Dell Axim x51v and so far there have been no problems connecting to the GPS or getting TomTom to recognize it. I usually place the GPS receiver on my dash with a clear view of the sky and I have used it in a variety of environments from rural roads with tree cover to urban areas with tall buildings. So far the BT-Q818 has performed very well and I’ve only lost a signal a couple of times and the GPS always reconnects very fast.

Bottomline:

If you are looking for a good Bluetooth GPS at a good price then definitely look at QSTARZ. The BT-Q818 is a 32 channel GPS receiver and features 32 hours of battery life. This device makes a great addition to a PocketPC or Smartphone running GPS software.
