The Garmin StreetPilot C330 GPS will keep you on the right track just about anywhere. The first thing you’ll notice is the small size and weight. It’s amazing how much information you can get from something so small. Then, just as impressive is the ease of operation. This unit may lack some of the bells and whistles of others, but simple is good when you are on the road. I bought this because I drive and fly quite a bit to places that are completely unfamiliar. I can use it in my car, or carry it easily on the plane and use it in a rent car. I had been using a laptop with Delorme Earthmate. That works okay, but takes time to fire up the computer, lock on the satellites, and is kind of unwieldy. The Garmin starts quickly, finds the satellites and calculates a route in no time. It gets me from where I am to where I am going, and does it masterfully. The POI database is a bit quirky, but that’s common to all auto GPS units. It’s great for finding restaurants and ATM machines, not so good for hospitals. Searching for a business or attraction by name, though, yields a surprising number of entries you won’t even need to put in the address for. Overall, I’m beyond pleased. The screen is great, though it does wash out a bit in direct sunlight (again, nothing unusual compared to other GPS units.) The volume for the voice directions is more than adequate. It also has a trip computer that will show miles to destination, average and top speed and more. This model is not only smaller and lighter, but less expensive than others in its field. You can tell they’ve put a lot of thought into the user interface. Thanks, Garmin, for a great product.
