If you like to know where you are at any point, whether on foot or in the car, and you like to “tweak” your tech toys, this is the device for you. The Pocket PC is a fairly powerful Mia device with 64 Mb of RAM, and a 560 mHz STRONGARM processor.

Let me say before we continue … BUY A 1 GB SD CARD or you will not get the use out of this product that it is capable of yielding …. The 32 Mb card is basically useless.

The as-shipped SmartST 2.0 software MUST be upgraded for the device to be useful (the shipped software is LAME … you WILL go crazy trying to use it without the upgrade). Once upgraded the mapping software is as good as Microsoft Streets and Trips 2005 (the 2006 is better, but to use the MS product you can only load in a fairly small region at a time). The GPS device locks with the same speed as any GARMIN product I have used, I don’t know what the other complaints in this regard are based on, as I have used 18 different GPS devices and this one is as good as any of the others I have used. If you want better performance from your GPS device, get one of the External powered antenae (look on eBay, they are about $15), and you will regularly have at least 10-12 sats picked up.

Al I can say is the Pocket PC is a mid level quality device. The GPS is as good as it gets, and the mapping software is mid-top end for a hand-held device.
