I owned this unit for a few days before upgrading to the ETrex Vista. I have written quite a long review on the Vista which is also available on Eopinions.

The main reasons for my wanting the Vista model were that the Venture does not include any capability for loading maps onto the device, and does not include any basemaps. You can view point data, however I figured the addition of the actual map data was worth the extra cost of the Vista unit.

The Vista’s electronic compass is also a nice feature which I’ve found handy when Geocaching. I’m sure I could use a regular $5 compass just as effectively, however having everything integrated into one unit is quite nice.

The battery life on this unit IS much better than the Vista owing to the lack of additional sensors, and the satellite positioning location is just as accurate, so if you would like better battery life, and are not concerned with having no on-board map ability, this may be a good unit for you!

You can also plug this unit into a PC via the serial port and use PC (or Mac) GPS mapping software.
