My wife got me the StreetPilot 2610 for Christmas. I guess she got tired of my male “vector in on it” system!
This is my first GPS system so maybe I’m unduly amazed at how accurate it is, with clear voice and text instructions.
Very detailed maps. Lots of capabilities– be careful, with “tracks enabled” it can even track where you’re been.
I like that if you miss a turn, the nice GPS lady says I’m “off route” and quickly tells me how to get back on route — which eliminates my usual expletives. But there’s a danger that you blindly follow the directions, not noticing signs or anything to find your way back. No worry, just press “Return to Start”, and no matter where you are, a route is redrawn and the nice lady tells me how to get home — I think I’m in love!
\ If you put all the maps on your PC from the CDs (you have to) it will take about 1 gig of space, so I just transferred the 2 regions I needed.
I went to Garmin.com and downloaded upgrades for both the PC software (MapSource) and for the StreetPilot 2610.
I highly recommend this if you do any driving in a new city by auto. It’s such a “gee-whiz” product I think I’ll check out their stock.
