I bought this unit for my wife 6 months ago for Christmas. Never written a review so I hope this is helpful to those reading it. I will do the Con first since it is real short.

Cons: I am very computer literate and I just had some initial problems figuring the thing out (typical male fashion - without reading the directions). 2nd issue is where the power plug attaches to the back of the Garmin unit. It is very loose and eaily slides off. This is a minor issue but still one non the less.

Pros: This unit is GREAT! After reading reviews back in December I bought a Refurbished unit to save money (I have bought a lot of rerubed items and NEVER had a problem with one - that is worthy of a whole different post). This came with a subscription to an updated map. If you live in an area with a lot of new construction then you will need the updated map and still there will be brand new areas that do not show up but that goes for any GPS.

This unit covers all major cities in the US and you can buy additional maps. We just went to Birmingham which we knew nothing about and all we did was constantly punch in our next desired location and “Gabby” (our affectionate given name) took us right there. The Garmin 2620 has TONS of business names, addresses, and phone numbers already loaded. So you can put in Wal-Mart and it will show all the Walmart starting with the closest and going out from there.

You can quickly enter any address, intersection, point of interest, etc. Once you choose your destination, it will ask you to choose fastest route or shortest route. We always choose fastest route which will generally keep you on the main roads.

It comes with the adhesive dash mount as well as a portable dash mount. I ordered an extra stuck on dash mount and we just have the extra “bean bag” type portable mount for use in another vehicle other than our own 2 cars. I have never used or seen another GPS other than this one so I can’t compare. I bought this one because of the reviews and I have not regretted it one single time. I finally got a gift that my wife did not ever expect (or even think she needed) and she has thanked me often!

We just too a short trip to Birmingham AL which we knew NOTHING about and “Gabby” got us EVERYWHERE. I wanted Shipley’s Donuts which was not in the phone book so I punched it in Gabby and what do you know know, there was one within 15 minutes of where I was (only one in the state!) so Gabby got me there and back to my hotel.

One last funny and I will let this be it. If you have seen (or will be seeing the movie RV, then you will appreciate, otherwise move on). One the way to Birmingham (at about 11:00pm) Gabby tells “unknown location”. So I am thinking I have somehow missed a turn for Hwy 78. So I turn around in the median to head back wondering how in the world I missed such an obvious turn and she did not tell me!. Ends up we were on a BRAND NEW section of Hwy 78 that is not on any new maps or GPS maps. So we got back on the new highway and headed on our way and eventually got to part of the hwy that was on the map. For you GPS owners or owners to be, you will appreciate the scene with Robin Williams as he is communicating with “Lola” his GPS in the movie RV (which by the way had funny parts but is NOT young child appropriate).
