This is my first GPS unit. I had done about 8 months of research and chose the Garmin 2610 to use on my motorcycle trips. After the initial shock of how many maps there were (over 1000 so it took about 5 1/2 hour to download) and after understanding how the unit expects to be programmed, The unit is extremely enjoyable. This unit has far surpassed ALL of my expectations. I wanted a unit that had a color screen, voice commands and easy to navigate screens. This unit has all of this and a lot more that I hadn’t even considered. After downloading the maps and learning how to talk to the component, all that was required from me was to plug it in and let it do the rest. programming the routes takes a bit of time to perfect but once your routes have been defined, just relax and follow. The purpose of the unit, for me, is to guide me on my motorcycle trips. It mounts easily on my bike (I had several options) and is easy to work with. I set the programming and away I went. The unit gave me clear instructions on when and where to turn. The unit gave street names. I even went off course. The unit stated that I was off course, stated that it was recalculating and then gave me a new route. It did all of this without any intervention from me what-so-ever! Just tell this unit where it is and where you want to go and it will take care of the rest. Even if you want to take a detour, this unit will get you to your destination. With the capability of having ALL of the maps for North America in the memory card, I’ll never have to worry about driving out of range. This unit is excellent.
