I chose Magellan because I read another review that said it gives voice instructions at 2 miles and again at 1/2 mile before the turn. Ha, now I find it annoying, but I’m still glad I got the Magellan.

The database is a few years old, so there are lots of roads that aren’t listed. I live in Orlando, which has lots of new construction. However, when I travel to small towns in Georgia, where the roads have all been there for a long time, it still wants me to take a very long way, or turn down a dirt road that’s only used for dirt bikes. In my town, when going from highway 408 to I-4 (the major highway intersection downtown), it wants me to get off onto a side street and the get back on the other road.

I don’t know if I can compare it with other brands, but I still appreciate having a GPS in the car. I like the POI feature, and am usually happy when I can find the nearest store or park. Still, I was surprised that post offices aren’t listed, only the processing centers (not helpful!)

Since I was new to this, my other disappointment is that I can’t use this for geocaching. The coordinates aren’t specific enough. I like that this unit has a battery backup, but I haven’t found any use for it out of the car so it seems like a waste.
