We were going on an extended vacation to the NE and needed extra help. So we bought the Garmin i5 off of ebay. Not having any dealings with GPSs I really didn’t know what to expect. I had read and reread the info from different sites and had weighted the pros and cons from here and CR. The Garmin Street Pro i5 has been a great help. For us and for our 2 sons also. They both took it on their family vacations and were well pleased. We had bought the extra power cord and then some rechargeable batteries for insurance. The smaller size doesn’t diminish it’s workability. We drove 1900 miles and only got led astray once and that was mostly our fault. It didn’t recognize we wanted South Portland and it led us into the big city. We toyed with where best to have it mounted and finally decided on the passenger window. My wife was the co-pilot and navigator, she also had a stack of maps for reference at her feet. We sometimes got confused on the spelling of some New Brunswick cities and needed help. It does offer some choices if you get close to the correct spelling but we didn’t really want to be too far off course. Like all new things we had to go thru the learning curve but afterward we did good. I started referring to it as our friend. When we’d take a side journey after we’d already picked our route it’d insist we turn around. But we’d either mute it or turn it off. When we’d finished our excursion we’d start it again and it’d find us and away we’d go. It did leave us in the lurch once at an interchange. It had to recalibrate but with the road signs we weren’t too flustered.I think it was a bonus to have “Our Friend” with us and we’d do it again. It’s small enough to fit most everywhere and just large enough to see without trouble. The capabilities are great. We had packed it in our suitcase for the flight and the smaller size was again good. I like the idea of it being portable. The built in units are probably as good but lack the fact we could carry this with us if we wanted when we went on foot into Quebec. If you’re in doubt about buying one I’d suggest this unit. Small, lower priced and very mobile.
