So I was looking for a navigation system for my wife. The choices were: getting a new car with navigation built in or buying a seperate stand alone unit and keep the current car.

After some research, I narrowed down the choice to the Tom Tom and the Garmin mainly because of the size and the internal antenna.

The final choice was made after actually fiddling around with them at Best Buy.. Best Buy didn’t have the C340 but they carried the previous model which was fine for comparisons…

The C340 has TTS which essentially is that the unit speaks the actual street instead of just saying to turn in 500 Feet. I think that this was extremely important for me at least since it was for my wife and I don’t want her eyes off the road.

The unit is great and comes ready to go out of the box…I did update the software and updated the Jill’s voice and added Jack which my wife prefers over Jill…

I tested it before I let my wife used it… It actually worked great… No issues.. Found everything fine.

I hardwired the unit to the fuse panel for a permanent built-in look.

The only issue was the fact that the maps and restaurants, fuel locations, etc are not updated as frequently as new locations are popping up. I live in Florida and new places are popping up every week and the maps don’t know the places are there.
