I have had my Roadmate 700 for roughly a year. It’s sad that Thales has such a generally great GPS product and yet a simply terribly customer service / tech support system. From the product side, the only criticism I have is that the unit can take a few minutes before it picks up the satellite signal. That’s a pain if you’re starting out in an unfamiliar area and have to either wait for a signal or guess the correct direction, until the signal is established.

Now, from the customer service / tech support side, I’ve spent over 3 weeks trying to get one simple answer, i.e., does their newest software update include updated maps to the ones installed on my unit. When you email their support group, you may or may not get a response. If you get one, it may answer your question or it may head off in an entirely different direction. Wanna phone tech support instead? How about going through a series of options and then receiving a recorded message saying, “no messages recorded, please try again later.” And, though I have no problem with companies outsourcing their tech support to offshore companies, please have people who have a good command of the English language.
