I probably need to read more of the manual (on CD only) as I don’t know how to get it to eliminate a freeway or section of a freeway (today and last Friday, the freeway was closed due to bad accidents…if you get off the freeway, it automatically does its best to get you back on it unless you tell it to avoid freeways…yeah, I wanna drive 50 miles of surface streets…all I really want to do is avoid the next 6 miles of freeway). I don’t know if I’m going to keep this unit or put it up on eBay…but I am very disappointed in it at this time.

PROS:

USUALLY doesn’t let you get too lost

CONS:

1) $99 per year for map updates…and the maps on your NEW unit might already be older than a year

2) gives some totally off-the-wall directions (i.e., around Woodward Ave in Detroit it never wants you to go through an intersection, instead it directs you to make a right turn followed by a U-turn followed by a right turn at every intersection…how’s THAT for directions?

3) my recently purchased unit (less than 30 days old) is totally missing a freeway that I sometimes drive (M-6)…the Roadmate 700 thinks I am traveling across fields?
