If you are a casual traveler looking for a unit to get you from point “a” to point “b” via the main freeways and expressways, this unit will do the trick “right-out-of-the-box”. However, if you are a weary road warrior, looking for purely the shortest route, e.g.; from Tampa to JAX while avoiding Orlando traffic, I do not recommend the Tomtom…Perhaps the unit would have performed better if I had subscribed to the integrated traffic updates…but there just isn’t time when CircuitCity (and others) gives you only 14 days to return it.. As I said, the TomTom does work “right-out-of-the-box”, and has a great, easy to use, itinerary planning interface which transfers easily from your laptop to the unit- although, I was not personally fond of the unit giving me my next turn in “yards” vice the standard “tenths of a mile” but, definitely not a big deal. The TomTom is easy to use, accurate, acquires satellites quickly, and does have great personalization frills (map colors, celebrity voices, etc)…BUT, for my purposes (business) I actually preferred, and subsequently purchased, the Garmin Nuvi 350 which is a good bit more, and does not come with the built-in traffic service. NONE-THE-LESS, do ALL your research BEFORE purchasing from CC as you will incur their “15% restocking fee” if the unit just does not suit your needs. Look for the best deal EVERYWHERE (ebay, etc), as CC will NOT stand behind these, or make it any simpler than just buying through a no-name lower price option. Garmin however, WILL support any of their products (as long as its not stolen, etc.) and you get a verifiable receipt from the seller…I hope this helps, in your purchase decision.
