Good value for an inexpensive, low-end GPS. I compared several models on CDNet.com, and chose this one because of the features at that price level. Also, CDNet shopping allowed me to purchase it from a retailer at about 1/2 the normal price that the manufacturer was indicating on its web site, so it was a terrific deal. I just wish the map cartridge that came with this new GPS was not so out of date.

The TomTom 300 was fairly easy to program after initial trial and error. However, I took it on vacation to Las Vegas and found several map errors when traveling to destinations that I programmed in, and it took several tries before I found Hoover Dam and was able to program it so I could find my way there.

The website is not very user friendly, but I was able to finally download a free voice that was so fun to use. There are additional celebrity voices that can be downloaded from the website for a nominal charge.

I am still trying to contact TomTom to find out why brand new units are being sold with such outdated map cards. On the top of the line, most expensive models, free map updates are included, but on the GO 300, you will most likely end up with an outdated map card and have to pay $50.00 extra to receive an updated map. Wouldn’t it make more sense to offer free downloads of updated maps when a new GPS is purchased, regardless of the model? However, this GPS was listed for $400.00 on the TomTom website, and I was able to buy it for less than $250.00 on CDNet.com, so I got a good value for the money.
