I received my first GPS, the Garmin Etrex Venture, this Christmas. The features are great, and so is the price. It is waterproof, and will pick up signal almost anywhere outside. You can also purchase MapSource software to go with it, so if you have the cable to hook-up to your computer, you can download Points of Interest. Also, Garmin provides updates to their software for free on their website. A GPS comes in handy for many things, including: hiking, boating, camping, hunting, and many others. Makes a great gift for the outdoorsman or anyone looking for fun. If your looking for a good GPS but no willing to spend a lot of money, this is the one to buy.
