I have had this GPS for about 8 months and discovered on my very first long trip that the USA maps are so out of date that they should be an embarassment to TomTom. Some addresses in neighborhoods established 40 years ago are not available. Highway bypasses constructed in the past 5 years are not shown and I frequently have been routed through business areas that could have been avoided. Around my own town I frequently get directions to make a turn that cannot be taken. I have gotten instructions to make a “U” turn and then given the same instruction to go back in the original direction again after just 200 yards.

The operating manual located at TomTom’s web site is inadequate and so is the demo. Frequently asked questions never answers my questions. Of course, I found the same problem with FAQ for my cameras, computers, scanners, etc.

Customer telphone support is very friendly and helpful with solving most problems but they continually give me dates for new map software which never materialize. I would gladly pay a reasonable charge for annual map software updates. The docking device is no good. There is no way I can attach it to my Taurus windshield without obstructing my view of the road. My friend has another brand attached to a beanbag which can be located anywhere. Driving and looking at your display is even more dangerous than talking on a cell phone. I just keep it in my lap on short trips. On long trips my wife holds it when necessary.
