The C340 is not as good as the cheaper C330. Ready why… - Garmin StreetPilot® c340 Car GPS Receiver A few weeks ago, my Garmin C330 was stolen, so I decided that since I loved the C330 so much, I would take the opp...
Though I’ve only had mine a few days, first impressions are terrific. The screen clarity is superb, the user interface is very intuitive, and the internal battery is wonderful. I had a Garmin 2620 for several weeks, and returned it due to freezing problems. This screen resolution on the C330 is MUCH improved over the 2620. And the screen size on the c330 is more useful than the 2620, too - the C330’s is larger and taller than the 2620’s. I really like the internal battery on the C330 - it’s great to do trip planning on the C330 without looking for external power. And when you turn off your car, the C330 asks if you want to keep navigating on internal power or shut it off. The battery is rated for 4 hours. The power cable is hardwired into the windshield mount - not plugged into the receiver - so removing the receiver from the mount is super simple.
The C330 is not designed with the capability of the 2620 though. The C330 only keeps one route in storage at a time, compared with 50 routes in the 2620. You cannot monitor the signal strength of each satellite, and you can’t determine your latitude/longitude, for example, on the C330. But the C330 gives you an ingeniously simple interface, great performance, a beautiful screen, the internal battery, and built in speakers. All in all, it’s a strong buy if you want a simple, well performing GPS receiver. If you want all the bells and whistles, though (which I don’t need), get the 2610/2620 or Roadmate 500/700.
Note the C330 comes with a “lite” version of Garmin’s map database, compared with the 2620. You can compare the differences on Garmin’s web site. I’ve not noticed any significant difference - the 2620 may display smaller lakes and rivers and a more detailed coastline than the C330, for example. But for my navigating needs, the C330 fits the bill perfectly.
The only negative is the manual is not quite complete. It does not mention the AC adapter or internal battery, for example. I have no idea how to replace the internal battery, when the time comes. And I have no idea how long it takes to charge the battery - though mine came fully charged.
